THE WORLD DOESN'T END
A solo exhibition by Michelle Rahbar

In her solo show, “The World Doesn’t End” local painter, Michelle Rahbar, is exhibiting a new body of work that traces the paths of ghosts and ethereal figures through West Texas landscapes. The figures in the paintings are in a place of transformation, two headed beasts splitting and becoming both body and spirit, navigating landscapes she creates that exist outside of linear time. They’re meditations on the world within and the push and pull of the universe without. Exploring how memories double the space of your existence.

The paintings are otherworldly, individually expressive using layers of paint and scavenged materials while speaking to one another through color, texture and visual vocabulary. Each piece adds to the other’s story and allows the viewer to get lost beneath the surface and immerse themselves in the transformations.

The work focuses on how loss reshapes you, how we reframe the idea of home throughout our lives and how past trauma can be cultivated into strength and beauty. Our identities shift throughout our lifetimes, but the ghost still lingers.

THE ART OF MUSIC

The Bolm Arts Gallery in the East Austin Arts District is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, THE ART OF MUSIC, on September 19, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM, as part of the Third Thursday Art Evening series. Curated by Nicole Josephine Kline, a member of the Bolm Arts Collective, this exhibition commemorates the talents of local Austin artists and musicians.

This exhibition will explore the intersection of visual art and live music, featuring a diverse array of artworks, including sculptures, album cover art, and videography. The gallery will showcase pieces from visual artists Autumn Mae and Louis Eastman, alongside album cover designs by local musicians such as John Wesley Coleman and Andrew Cashen, each reflecting the rich music culture of Austin.

The exhibition will also include projections of music videos by local directors Olivia Maaghul and Dé, and musical artists Being Dead and We Don't Ride Llamas. These displays will be shown on the exterior wall of the gallery, complemented by special live performances throughout the evening. An open bar, sponsored by the Bad Lucky Poetry Collective, will be available for guests.

THE ART OF MUSIC aims to celebrate Austin's reputation as the Live Music Capital of the World and to highlight the deep connections between art and music in the community. INSIDE
Forrest Aderholt and Kelsey Baker

INSIDE is a multimedia installation that includes painted works, hand-dyed textiles, video, and sound. Both artists are extending their exploration of non-traditional display in service of further engaging the space and viewer.

With INSIDE the duo explore the relatability of experiencing the world through a physical body, the alienation of contemporary medical experiences, and the mind/body connection. In his own studio practice Aderholt investigates how formative moments become encoded in personal memory. His paintings, textile works, and videos interrogate how seemingly mundane moments indoctrinate us into violent systems that disregard the sanctity of life. Baker’s works enact a push and pull of seduction and repulsion that draws the viewer’s awareness to their physical body in space. Through collages of video, painting, and installation, she gives visible exterior form to ephemeral internal experiences.

These artists closely collaborated through every step of the creation process to produce a fresh body of work to be displayed in Bolm Arts gallery.
