Artist Biography
Isaiah Castillo is a Mexican-American brand architect and multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas. Oft inspired by his passions for social science and culture, his works investigate the nexus between everyday life and the abstract mechanisms that shape it. Leveraging his academic background, his process focuses on utilizing psychology, sociology, and anthropology to understand the world around him, then transforming that scientific understanding into color, composition, and movement through photography and design.
He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019, earning a B.S. in Communication Studies, a minor in Sociology, and a Global Business Certificate from the McCombs School of Business. Castillo currently serves as Marketing Chair and Board Member of Bolm Arts, where he curated The Art Market: An Immersive Gallery in February 2025. He is currently developing Excursions Into Humans, a documentary series exploring identity and lived experience, alongside The Barrio Fútbol Project, an interdisciplinary body of work centered on community, sport, and culture.
Artist Statement
The world is a beautiful place full of diversity and wonder. When we escape our bubbles of comfort and immerse ourselves in the unfamiliar, we discover inspiring individuals, vibrant histories, and unique ways of life that challenge our perspectives. Repeated exposure to these collisions empowers our ability to think creatively, affords us a deeper understanding of the world, and connects us to our humanity.
I’ve fallen in love with the pursuit of these collisions—with learning, exploring the world, and immersing myself in the unfamiliar stories of other places and people. I find my inspiration both in the materialization of the social world—in culture, social relationships, and the workings of everyday life—and through the investigation of it. When inspired by my logically driven mind, I create works that investigate the nexus between everyday life and the abstract mechanisms that shape it.
However, when I'm not overthinking, my affinity for the romantic guides my creative endeavors. I’m keen on capturing the natural movements of people and their presence in the moments of everyday life—raw and full of emotion. Through these creations, I seek to share stories of people and places with the hope of connecting us to others and our humanity. Ultimately, I aspire to turn my journey of exploration into works that create the collisions needed to empower the learning and growth of myself and those around me.
