About the event

Community Mask Making Workshop
For as long as people have made art, they've made masks. Masks have been used for ritual, performance, celebration, and disguise, giving the wearer permission to become someone new or to reveal something they usually keep hidden. This workshop is part of Behind the Mask, a group exhibition at Bolm Arts Gallery that explores the mask as one of humanity's oldest tools for transformation and self-expression.
Each participant will receive a blank papier-mâché mask to paint, decorate, and alter however they like. Make it playful, strange, beautiful, or personal. There's no right way to do it and no experience needed.
Your finished mask will stay with the gallery (if you so wish) and become part of the exhibition's community installation, hanging alongside the collective's work when the show opens on October 9. On October 31, come claim your mask and wear it to our Halloween masquerade…
