The Barrio Fútbol Project

Curated By:

Isaiah Castillo & Juan Garcia

Bolm Arts presents The Barrio Fútbol Project, a multidisciplinary exhibition and community project exploring fútbol as a point of connection between art, culture, identity, and place. Opening at Bolm Arts on November 12 and continuing through December 4, the exhibition brings together work by local artists responding to the cultural and communal dimensions of the game. The exhibition anchors a larger series of events taking place throughout East Austin in collaboration with Barrio Club de Fútbol, Praxis Coffee Roasters, and Lustre Pearl East.

Participating artists include F.art, Isaiah Castillo, Juan Garcia, Lila Hudgins, Alie Jackson, Ryan Kutnick, Raquel Natalicchio, Hada Perez, Annie Purpura, Iván M. Reyes, Oscar A. Rivera, STNLOW, and Zamorai whose works explore the intersections of community, identity, culture, and sport.

The exhibition extends beyond the gallery with two days of public programming on November 14–15, at Lustre Pearl East, coinciding with the first weekend of the Austin Studio Tour. Copa Barrio, a two-day futsal tournament, brings local teams together through friendly competition and a shared appreciation for the game. El Mercado, a vendor market featuring local artists and makers, creates opportunities for creative exchange and community support. Barrio Radio Live, brings music into the experience through live DJ sets and performances throughout the weekend. Casa del Barrio at Praxis Coffee Roasters presents an additional exhibition of artwork exploring the project's central themes.

The Barrio Fútbol Project reflects Bolm Arts’ and Barrio Club de Fútbol’s commitment to artist-led programming that creates meaningful opportunities for both artists and the public to participate. By bringing exhibitions, sport, music, and community programming into conversation with one another, the project expands the ways audiences can encounter contemporary art while recognizing fútbol as an important cultural language shared across generations, neighborhoods, and communities.
