NICOLE JOSEPHINE
ARTIST BIO:
Nicole Josephine Kline is a creator, critical thinker, and theorist of love. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Based in Austin, Texas, her specific painting process
has manifested over many years of making art with young children, as both a Montessori Art Teacher and an early child care professional. With a M.S. in professional counseling and a specialization in emotionally focused therapy, Nicole uses her art process as a respite for the amalgam of human drama.
Nicole has had two solo exhibitions: “The Woman Who Evolved, Eventually” in 2023 and “The Wicked Witch of the East” in 2025. She has curated group shows at the Bolm Arts Gallery, including “The Interpretation of Dreams” in January 2024 and “The Art of Music” in fall 2024. As the founder of the printing press “Bad Lucky Books,” she has published poetry in collaboration with the Bolm Arts Collective. Books she has written and published include "Things She'll Never Say", "Le Fou: the Cat's Got My Tongue", "Spill Tab", and "The Stitching Mysterion". An advocate for the arts, music, and high-quality childcare, Nicole continues to inspire through her art and writing.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Connect and disconnect - construct and destroy. As a multidisciplinary artist, my art-making process embodies a delicate balance of two opposing forces: spiritual abstraction and humanism. Through my artistic explorations, I aim to raise critical questions about the human experience, challenging the stereotypes, expectations, and familial legacies that shape our identities.
I am a theorist of love and human connection, and my art incorporates abstract portraiture with color theory in a vibrant, eclectic manifestation of my view of the human condition. With a foundation of blind contour sketching, my creations express my personal perspective on line, shape, and form as it relates to an improvident process of letting a painting unfold on its own accord. Each canvas, sculpture, and poem is a unique pictorial journal entry of my life stories.
